Ruby Bridges' Zoom
Ruby Bridges was a kindergartener who braved the desegregation of New Orleans schools in 1959-1960. She was escorted to school by Federal Marshals amid crowds shouting aggressively and throwing items at her. She was the subject of a famous Norman Rockwell painting, pasted below, titled The Problem We All Live With. Throughout her life, she continues to champion Civil Rights. She founded the Ruby Bridges Foundation which promotes "the values of tolerance, respect, and appreciation of all differences". Describing the mission of the group, Ms. Bridges says, "racism is a grown-up disease and we must stop using our children to spread it."
